Pigmentation Problems

Pigmentation means colouring.  Skin pigmentation disorders affect the color of your skin. Skin cells give your skin colour by making a substance called melanin. When these cells become damaged or unhealthy, it affects melanin production. Some pigmentation disorders affect just patches of skin. Others affect your entire body.

If your body makes too much melanin, your skin gets darker. 

Causes of Hyperpigmentation Include:

Some pregnent women overproduce melanin and develop a condition called Chloasma or the "mask of pregnancy", on their faces, which can worsen after sun exposure.

Age Spots, which are small pockets of pigmentation on the skin that look like blemishes are associated with ageing and sun exposure.
